Stacy
Oxenhandler, ND, M.A.B.S
Mind-Body Medicine
Stacy graduated from
Bastyr University
with a degree in naturopathic medicine and continued her education
by pursuing a Master's in Applied Behavioral Science from
Saybrook
University, LIOS Graduate College. In addition to conventional
training, she also completed a three-year apprenticeship in
shamanic healing which draws upon the wisdom of indigenous
cultures.
Stacy believes that health is more than the absence of disease.
She works with patients to achieve optimal wellness on all levels
- physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. She helps
them use thoughts and intention to create the lives they truly
want - as individuals, in family systems, and in community.
Stacy continues to seek an understanding of written and practiced
theory from the field. For example, Angeles Arrien suggests that
one of the four addictions in this culture is the focus on what's
not working. By shifting one's attention to what is working in our
lives, through practices such as mindfulness & gratitude, we set
out on the path of deliberate creation.
Stacy invites patients to see what is working, to envision what is
possible, and to align with one's greatest dream, deepest joy and
purpose on the planet.
"Every person has a story to be told and I approach each patient
as an individual with compassion, curiosity, and respect," she
says. "Utilizing intuitive skills and array of eclectic tools, I
work with patients to discover, create, and align themselves with
the lives they want going forward."
This process of discovery may include: how to have more effective
communication, how to set healthy boundaries, how to make
self-honoring choices, how to engage more fully with all that life
has to offer, how to live a life of heart and meaning, and how to
navigate the "dark nights of the soul."
Stacy offers counseling to individuals, couples, parents &
children, patients and caregivers alike. Her services are offered
at no cost to patients of the Center. You can make an appointment
by talking to your physician.
Lori Nelson, M.A., L.M.H.C.A, L.M.P
Mind-Body Medicine
Lori was inspired by bodywork in 1996, when she received her first
series of Hellerwork Structural Integration. Trained as a gymnast
when she was child, an athlete as a teen and landing in a desk job
working long hours as a young adult, she was beginning to suffer
daily aches and pains by her early 20's.
"My experiences with Hellerwork, yoga, psychotherapy and the
other body oriented modalities in the last decade have allowed me
to live with more ease, balance and peace than I could have
imagined possible at one time," states Lori of her own journey to
wellness.
As a result of her positive experiences, she felt inspired to
learn how to help others live with more ease and balance in their
bodies and in their lives. In 1996, Lori left a successful
advertising career to complete primary training in Hellerwork
Structural Integration. Since this time, she has continued to
increase her skills.
Lori has been a student of yoga since 1994 and completed yoga
teacher training with
Ana Forrest
in 2001. She began studying Craniosacral Therapy in 2001 with the
Upledger
Institute and completed advanced Craniosacral Therapy
training with
Ursula Popp
in 2003. She received a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling
from Antioch University in 2009 with the intention of
incorporating body centered and other forms of psychotherapy into
my practice.
"I bring awareness of structure, alignment, psychology, movement
education and presence of spirit to my practice," she says.
"Whether I am assisting a client to heal from a physical injury,
helping another to unwind years of stored tension or assisting an
individual suffering from emotional challenges, it is my intention
to help each of my clients lead more whole, balanced and healthy
lives."
An essential aspect of Lori's therapeutic focus is that it looks
beyond the individual history, to include universal themes of
human existence as they play out in your life now. "I have a
strong belief in the transformative power of the therapeutic
relationship," she adds.
Lori applies several important tools to the practice of counseling
including Focusing technique
which accesses sensations in the body as a spring board for
increased understanding, awareness and resolution of trauma.
Moreover, Complex Integration of Multiple Brain Systems focuses on
helping you become "unstuck" from unhealthy patterning that
perpetuates ways of being, interacting, and feeling that are
unhealthy. It helps you change how your brain processes anxiety,
stress, depression and other emotions. Finally, mindfulness
practices are incorporated as a way of gaining greater self
mastery, increasing one's ability to be conscious of choices and
able to make better ones.
"Given that my background is varied and includes training in both
psychotherapeutically oriented and body oriented modalities, I may
incorporate aspects of both into your therapy sessions depending
upon your needs. I may suggest using touch during treatment to
best assist you," she concludes.
For more information, or to make an appointment with Lori, just
ask your doctor at the Center.
